SMALL GROUP

The small group of boys and girls that are in 4th through 8th grades meet every other Friday night in the social hall from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. We are doing a study called Dare to be a Daniel. This study challenges boys and girls to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. It takes them through the steps of being a witness. They have workbooks and a website that they can use with the study. Upon completion, they will receive a set of dog tags that has a prayer and the steps for leading someone to Christ.

The youth are really enjoying this small group. We have so much more we want to do but we are taking it slow and enjoying the moment that God has given us.

As a leader of this group, I will say that I am learning as much or more than they are. Praise the Lord!!!

The Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20

19"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Wednesday Evenings 6:45-8:00 p.m.

The heart of AWANA is the gospel message of salvation. Children are clearly taught the plan of salvation and memorize scripture verses to support their understanding. It is a true joy to see children excited about participating in games, memory verses, and learning about God.

Council Time is held in all clubs and is a devotional time that allows for group discussions and lessons from the scripture.

During Game Time, the children work in teams to reach a goal. The importance of being a "team player" is emphasized.

During Handbook Time, children receive a handbook that contains Bible verses to memorize and activities to do. For more information, please contact Melissa Lindsey at 377-7149 or email molucy@hotmail.com.

Sunday Worship Service

What time does the service begin?

Our worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday morning.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable. We are interested in you as a person, not your clothes. If you dress casually, you will fit right in.

What is a service like?

Upon entering the auditorium, an usher will welcome you and hand you an information guide about the service and church happenings. You can choose a seat, sit back, relax, and enjoy the service. From this point on, it's hard to know what to expect. We may do a skit, we may show a commercial, there may be a video vignette, maybe a banner presentation or interpretive worship. We will use whatever tools it takes to help you understand the Bible and how to get to know Jesus better.

There are a few constants. You will have a chance to celebrate and worship with uplifting live music from our band. You can count on a message that applies to your life and one that will encourage you to reach beyond your current grasp. You can also count on a ministry team, led by our pastors, that will always be available for you after each service.

YOUTH GROUP - Youth

Our youth meet every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Room 211 at the church building. They offer various activities such as skits, interpretive worship, and praise band. On Wednesday, meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. in Room 211 for teaching and open discussion. Our objective is to raise up Christians who know the Bible and live it out.

It is exciting to see what God is doing in the youth at CSBC. We have seen what God can do when the Holy Spirit is invited in our youth's lives. We do not want the youth to wait until they are in their twenties or thirties to have an impact on our world. God can and is using them NOW!

For more information on our youth, please contact Nate Malone at 209-5939 or by email natemalone7@juno.com.

CSBC Youth Attended Conference in Pigeon Forge - Youth

On January 22-24 we had the privilege to take 12 people to the Meltdown Youth Conference in Pigeon Forge, TN. We thought we were going to have fun, bond, sing, and worship God - you know, the typical youth conference experience. We experienced all those things but found so much more than that. We saw God move and speak to our teenagers in a way that He never has before. The conference was called Meltdown for a reason because God melted the walls away that seperated us from Him and authentic worship. Our youth who attended this trip now have a hope and a passion that is tangible and real and can be felt and not just talked about. Please pray that we can build upon this and that the youth of this church will carry on with the fire and zeal that God sparked during this conference.

                                                                                                                        - Nate, Chara, Kara, and Jamey

In the summer a group of youth and adults from CSBC attended Summer Camp 2009 at White Oak in Winnsboro, SC. We spend the weekend focusing on the verse, "being doers of the Word and not hearers only" James1:22. The purpose of the lessons was for the campers to understand the importance of being the hands and feet of Jesus. Camp is fun and exciting for everyone that is involved. It is a time for children to be REAL with themselves, each other, and God. It is an incredible experience to see the Holy Spirit bring trust, friendship, and unity to the whole group. Camp is a memory that children that children and adults will forever cherish.

Decisions That Define Us - Decisions

Chester Second Baptist Church Decisions That Define Us

This is not a Statement of Faith. Our Statement of Faith remains the same. This is a set of decisions that help define our identity and clarify our goals as a church. These decisions are not a reaction to anything. They are not criticisms of any church or movement and are not meant as weapons toward others. These decisions are not a theology about what we are against but a theology of what we are for!

We would probably have said they were true from the beginning of our ministry but now they are defining, fundamental truths about God's will for us in this place - in this generation that we must pursue with passion.

Theses decisions are not arrogant proclamations or accomplishments. We humbly pursue these declarations. We have counted the cost as best we can and now seek to understand the depth of their value as we walk along this journey together.

So then, here are the decisions that we have made:
We have decided that teaching the gospel without demonstrating the gospel is not enough. Good preaching, good doctrine, and being good people are not enough. We have decided that having a good church club is not enough, good fellowship is not enough, and just being a member of that club is not enough. We have decided that having good Bible studies is good, but not good enough, that just making it to heaven is not our goal, and that knowing about God without truly knowing and experiencing God is meaningless. The answer is not to stop teaching but to start practicing. We have decided that having good programs is not enough; that change without transformation is intolerable, and that staying the same is not an option. We are not opposed to structure but we are opposed to programs that replace a living vital relationship with Christ with a form of Godliness that denies His power. We have decided that gifting without character is futile. We have decided to emphasize a change of heart. We do not want people to comply in outwardly visible areas and yet ignore the often more important areas involving omission, selfishness, and materialism. We have decided that singing songs without worshipping is hollow and having meetings without God showing up is pointless. We have decided that having faith without works is dead faith and having works without love is legalism - that our function comes out of our relationship first with the Father and second with each other. We have decided that reading the book of Acts without living the book of Acts is unthinkable. We have decided that confident faith is good and bold/courageous faith is better. We have decided that hearing about the Holy Spirit without experiencing Him is silly, that believing in His presence without seeing It manifested in signs and wonders is hypocrisy, that believing in healing without seeing peopled healed is absurd, and that believing in deliverance without people being delivered is absolutely ridiculous. We have decided to be Holy Spirit filled, Holy Spirit led, and Holy Spirit empowered - anything less doesn't work for us.We have decided to be the ones telling the stories of God's power - not the ones hearing about them.We have decided that living saved, but not supernatural is living below our privilege and short of what Christ died for.We have decided that we are a battleship not a cruise liner, an army, not an audience; special forces not spectators, missionaries not club members. We have decided to value both pioneers and settlers - pioneers to expand our territory and settlers to build on those territories - but we are not squatters - people who take up space others have fought for without improving it.We have decided to be infectious instead of innocuous, contagious instead of quarantined, deadly instead of benign. We have decided to be radical lovers and outrageous givers. We have decided that we are a mission station and not a museum. We have decided to bless the work of other believers and other churches in our community and to pray for their success. We are not in competition with other believers or other churches and their success does not mean that our work is failing. There are enough people perishing all around to fill every church. We do not consider trading members with other churches to be progress in building the kingdom of God.We have decided it is better to fail while reaching for the impossible that God has planned for us than succeed settling for less. We have decided that we will not be satisfied until the world freaks out and cries out, "Those who have turned the world upside down have come here too."We have decided that the marketplace is a ministry calling and that wherever God has us vocationally; we will live out our faith and God given ministry. We have decided that we all have areas of influence and we pray, evangelize, and disciple with passion within our circles. We will not depend on someone else or some program to do what God has given us the ability and authority to do. We are all priests.

Therefore:We honor the past. We don't live in it.We live in the present with our eyes on the future. We see past events, successes, and failures as stepping stones and not stop signs. We pursue learning in order to be transformed, not learning in order to know.We are a people of engagement not observation. We focus on what could be - not what is or has been.We are not limited to the four walls of this building. Our influence is not restricted by location - not even the nations are out of bounds. We are more concerned with how many we send out into the world than how many we convince to come into the building. This building is meant to be filled and it will be, but it will not be the measure of who we are or the measure of our effectiveness. We raise up world changers, not tour guides. We train commandos, not committees. We are people of our destiny, not our history. We are a volunteer army, fighting by choice. Sometimes we are wounded but always advancing, storming the gates of hell.

These decisions are not destinations but rather journeys along an ancient path. We have not found some new way but rather rediscovered the path as old as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The same path followed by Moses, Joshua, and Caleb, Paul, John, and Peter. The path followed by the first century church. It is a church that revolutionized the culture of the first century and beyond. It is a path that will impact the world we live in today. It is a path of liberty, freedom, healing, significance, purpose, and destiny. This is a path less traveled, however, it is not a path only available to a select few but to "whosoever will may come." It is for all nations, tribes, and tongues, for those in any occupation or vocation. No matter where you are in your life journey, there is room on this path for you.

CSBC Statement of Faith - Statement of Faith

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

What We BelieveIn essential beliefs - we have unity.

"There is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all..."

Ephesians 4:4-6In non-essential beliefs - we have liberty.

"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters... Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God." Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22In all our beliefs - we show charity.

"...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains - but have no love, I amount to nothing at all." 1 Corinthians 13:2

The Essentials We Believe:

About God-God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

About Jesus Christ-Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; Romans 1:3, 4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14, 15; Titus 2:13)

About the Holy Spirit-The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16, 17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)

About the Bible-The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

About Human Beings-People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2)

About Salvation-Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

About Eternal Security-Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security. (John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5)

About Eternity-People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Cor. 2:7-9)OUR LIFESTYLE STATEMENT

What We Practice

Beliefs are not worth much unless they are translated into actions. Based on what the Bible teaches, we feel very strongly about the following seven practices:

Bible As Our Sole Authority-"The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us to do what is right." (2 Timothy 3:15)Since God's Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living. Our first question when faced with a decision is "What does the Bible say?" We practice daily Bible reading, Bible study, and Bible memorization. The Bible is the basis for all we believe.

Autonomy of Each Local Church-"Christ is the head of His Body, the church. He is the source of the Body's life..." (Colossians 1:18)Christ is the recognized head of our church; not any person, group or religious organization. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, we believe every local church should be self-governing and independent.

Priesthood of Every Believer-"Christ loves us, and by His death He has freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests to serve God..." Revelation 1:6 "You are...the King's priests...God's own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God." (1 Peter 2:9)The Bible teaches that every Christian is called to "full time" Christian service, regardless of his or her vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every believer has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading.

Giving-"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)At Chester Second Baptist we believe that at the very heart of giving lies a great love for God and a dependence upon Him. We acknowledge that God is owner of everything when we accept our roles as managers of God's possessions. When the love of Christ controls us, through prayer and guidance, each person can give out of love and not duty.

Immersion-"For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ..." (Colossians 2:12)We practice baptism by immersion under water - the way Jesus was baptized and the way the Bible commands.

Spirit-led Living-(Jesus said), "I am the Vine, you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; but apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)We believe the only way possible to live the Christian life is by God's power within us. So we seek to practice a daily dependence on God's Spirit to enable us to do what is right. Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 5:18

Telling Others About Christ-"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15)It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the Good News with those with whom God brings us into contact. We practice personal sharing about Christ and inviting friends to church.

Why Small Groups? - Small Groups

Small groups typically meet in each other's homes and generally include a time of casual family-type fun and fellowship, and the study of God's word and how it can be applied to your particular needs and circumstances. We do have some groups that meet at CSBC. Small groups are a place for each member to share their joys and struggles, praises and prayer requests. In a small group environment, deep trust and unconditional acceptance help to form a firm foundation upon which life-long friendships and significant spiritual growth can happen. We believe small groups are essential to the growth of Christ's church today as our witness is in our workplace and the communities in which we live. It's one way in which we minister to the needs of the body while growing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

If you interested in joining or starting a new small group, please contact Bill Stallings at bstallings@chestersecondbaptist.com or call the church office at 803-377-7149.
